The Thought Leader Summit offered a rich lineup of educational programming at both venues, including two CLE sessions, with fellow practitioners, in-house counsel, industry experts, and judges from the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

The program included: 

Session One-Panel Discussion (CLE Session)

  • Recent Rulemaking Efforts by the USPTO and Their Strategic Implications,
    Including Rulemaking Efforts Related to Discretionary Denial and Director Review

Session Two-Round Table Discussions with PTAB Judges (CLE Session)

  • Inherency Issues Raised in Post-Grant Proceedings
  • Issues to Consider in Petitions Involved in Joint Defense Group Litigation
  • Successful Techniques for Obviousness Analysis

Session Three-Expertise Expo with APJs and Practitioners (NEW THIS YEAR)

  • Various Topics Addressing Practice and Procedure before the PTAB including:  Hearings, Ex Parte Appeals, PGR v. IPR, Claim Amendment Options, and more

Attendees at the Silicon Valley Regional Office of the USPTO enjoyed a Diversity Breakfast
held immediately prior to the Thought Leader Summit programming.
