USPTO Alexandria, VA  |   USPTO San Jose, CA

PTAB Bar Association Thought Leader Summit 2023 at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Alexandria, Virginia

The PTAB Bar Association Thought Leader Summit will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024.  This year’s event will be a unique bi-coastal experience, held simultaneously at the USPTO offices in Alexandria, Virginia (1:30pm-5:30pm ET) and San Jose, California (10:30am-2:30pm PT). Attendees in both venues will have the opportunity to forge meaningful connections with peers and colleagues at the networking reception immediately following the programming.

The Thought Leader Summit promises a rich lineup of educational programming at both venues, including two CLE sessions, with fellow practitioners, in-house counsel, industry experts, and judges from the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

Key highlights include a panel discussion in Virginia that will be live-streamed to California, followed by in-person keynote addresses and engaging round table discussions at both locations. New this year, the Thought Leader Summit will add an Expertise Expo, offering participants an in-person opportunity to engage in Q&A with topic experts including APJs and fellow practitioners to address practical and procedural issues that arise in practice before the PTAB. After the sessions, attendees will have the chance to network with peers and colleagues during receptions at both venues.

Attendees will tap into the collective wisdom of seasoned practitioners, top industry experts, and PTAB judges as we examine the following issues:

Session One-Panel Discussion (CLE Session)

  • Recent Rulemaking Efforts by the USPTO and Their Strategic Implications,
Including Rulemaking Efforts Related to Discretionary Denial and Director Review

Session Two-Round Table Discussions with PTAB Judges (CLE Session)

  • The Impact of LKQ Corporation v. GM Global Technology Operations LLC
  • Inherency Issues Raised in Post-Grant Proceedings
  • Issues to Consider in Petitions Involved in Joint Defense Group Litigation
  • Successful Techniques for Obviousness Analysis

Session Three-Expertise Expo with APJs and Practitioners (NEW THIS YEAR)

  • Various Topics Addressing Practice and Procedure before the PTAB including:  Hearings, Ex Parte Appeals, PGR v. IPR, Claim Amendment Options, and more

Limited space is available in both venues (but particularly limited in CA) so secure your seat today.
