Committee on Appeals to the PTAB

This committee relates to appeals to the PTAB, including ex parte appeals and reexamination appeals. It proposes to the Board of Directors responses to legislative proposals, modifications to appeal rules and procedures, and comments on amicus briefs that implicate PTAB appeals.  It also collects and organizes ex parte/reexamination appeal statistics and PTAB opinions. This committee is also expected to coordinate with other committees to help with substantive communications, programs, and other needs that implicate appeals to the PTAB.

The PTAB Bar Association Committee on Appeals to the PTAB hosted or partnered on the following events:

• On August 3, 2023, the Committee on Appeals to the PTAB hosted a webinar, Organized Musings on Amgen, a conversation with Rick Torczon and Jenn O’Connell. Logged-in members of the PTAB Bar Association can access a recording of the webinar at the following members-only link: Committee on Appeals to the PTAB, Organized Musings on Amgen (August 3, 2023) . 
   
• On January 18, 2023, the Committee on Appeals hosted a webinar,  PTAB Bar Association Survey Results: A Discussion of the Ins and Outs of Ex Parte Appeals and Oral Arguments Before the PTAB. In 2021, the Appeals to the PTAB Committee conducted a survey of the Association’s membership asking questions about after-final practice, fees, and many aspects of ex parte appeals practice, including oral argument before the PTAB.  The Appeals to the PTAB Committee compiled the results and presented them to PTAB leadership last year.  This webinar discussed the findings and initial feedback we received from PTAB leadership regarding ex parte appeals practice. Logged-in members of the PTAB Bar Association can access a recording of the webinar at the following members-only link:Committee on Appeals to the PTAB, PTAB Bar Association Survey Results: A Discussion of the Ins and Outs of Ex Parte Appeals and Oral Arguments Before the PTAB (January 18, 2023).
