Diversity in the workplace can sometimes feel like checking a box off an organization’s to-do list.  But to create meaningful diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), organizations must see it as a core value.  It increases employee morale, brings forth multiple perspectives, and encourages innovation.  In this panel, our moderator Sheena Yap Chan will chat with four women about their personal and professional journeys, and how their journeys as women of color empowered them to “boss up” (to borrow a term from our moderator) and strive toward leadership roles in their career paths.  Please join us for a discussion with professional women from varied backgrounds and how they see DEI as not just a buzz phrase, but a core value to innovation and success.

Jisoo Beanland is a senior intelligence professional with over 16 years of experience in the
Intelligence Community (IC). She began her career as a Language and Intelligence Analyst for the National Security Agency (NSA), using her Korean cultural background and language skills to translate language materials and provide deep analysis based on current events. During her tenure at NSA, she provided interpretation support to VIP functions, the Department of Defense (DoD) conferences, and other high-level official visits, and received accolades. She branched out from her language analysis career track and built technical analytical skills in targeting tradecraft and methodology, developed deeper expertise in signals intelligence analysis for the East Asian Area of Responsibilities (AOR), and continue growing her leadership skills in briefing the leadership and VIPs at the interagency level. She was also an active member of the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) chapter at NSA. In 2018, after nearly 14 years of government services in the DoD intelligence sector, Jisoo moved to the private sector, taking her many years of experience to a number of IC-affiliated contracting companies including Northrop Grumman, Peraton, and most recently Valiant Integrated Services. Jisoo is also a certified fitness instructor and spent time as a head fitness instructor at the MacDill Air Force Base and HIS Rapid City, South Dakota. Her numerous skillsets and wide-ranging expertise has made her a vital asset for this nation’s defense.

Ching-Lee Fukuda is a reputable trial lawyer in intellectual property litigation.  With 25 years of experience, she has led significant wins in federal courts and at the PTAB, ITC, and Federal Circuit, focusing on electronics, software, medtech, and chemicals.  She is the head of Sidley’s IP Litigation practice in New York and a member of the firm’s Global Life Sciences Leadership Council. In 2021, Ching-Lee was shortlisted for “Patent Lawyer of the Year” by IFLR in its Women in Business Law Awards Americas and for “Practitioner of the Year (Litigation) – New York” by Managing IP. For two consecutive years, she was named the “Post Grant Proceedings Attorney of the Year” by LMG Life Sciences in 2020 and 2021 for her work on behalf of med tech, medical devices, and chemical companies. She has led or participated in 100 PTAB proceedings.

In numerous publications, clients describe Ching-Lee as having “superb legal acumen” and “a great intellect,” that she “can handle the most complex of cases,” and that “Ching-Lee tells you what you need to hear, not just what you want to hear, and for that reason is someone you can trust, which is critical in big-ticket patent litigation.”
